PRODUCT OVERVIEW
DESCRIPTION
Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) is a widely used solvent, TBP, an organophosphorus compound that appears as a pale yellow liquid, is an ester of phosphoric acid with n-butanol. In the nuclear industry, TBP serves as a nuclear solvent for the extraction and purification of various radioisotopes and rare earth metals from ores and spent fuels. It forms stable hydrophobic complexes with certain metals, making it effective in solvent extraction processes. Beyond the nuclear field, TBP is in high demand as a solvent and plasticizer for cellulose esters, a component in aircraft hydraulic and brake fluids, and as a solvent in inks, emulsions, synthetic resins, gums, adhesives, and defoamers. Additionally, it is used in herbicide and fungicide concentrates and as a heat-exchange medium.
