DESCRIPTION
Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid with an 18-carbon chain, commonly found in animal fats and vegetable oils like cocoa butter and shea butter. At room temperature, it is a white, waxy solid that is practically insoluble in water. Its structure has both a water-repelling side and a water-attracting group, which makes it useful as an emulsifier, thickener, and stabilizer in different formulations. This product is widely used in cosmetics and personal care products such as creams, lotions, and conditioners, as well as in the food industry as an additive. It also plays an important role in manufacturing, where it works as a processing aid in plastics, a lubricant in tablet production, and a key ingredient in candle making to improve texture and shelf life. Additionally, stearic acid is used in coatings for metallic powders in pyrotechnics to prevent oxidation. Unlike many other saturated fats, it has a neutral effect on cholesterol levels.
