DESCRIPTION

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid (LABSA) is a widely used anionic surfactant in the detergent industry due to its properties such as detergency, foaming, wetting, emulsification, and dispersion. This compound is notable for its high stability in acidic and alkaline environments and in the presence of certain oxidants, making it a versatile and effective ingredient in the formulation of both liquid and powder detergents for household and industrial use. Additionally, LABSA is compatible with other surfactants and additives, facilitating its integration into various formulations. Due to its relatively low cost and good performance, LABSA is employed as a raw material for the production of detergents and emulsifiers. It can be dried to obtain a stable powder and is easily biodegradable, with biodegradability exceeding 90%, making it an environmentally friendly option. LABSA is also used in industrial applications as a coupling agent and emulsifier in the production of agricultural herbicides and in emulsion polymerization processes. When neutralized with caustic soda, LABSA forms sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate, a key anionic surfactant in a wide range of cleaning products.
