DESCRIPTION

Isobutyl Isobutyrate (IBIB) is a colorless liquid with a pleasant fruity odor. It is moderately toxic by inhalation and is insoluble in water, but it is soluble in alcohols and ethers. Naturally found in fruits and essential oils, IBIB has various industrial applications. Primarily, IBIB is used as a solvent in nitrocellulose lacquers, coatings for plastic substrates, and high-solids coatings. It is an economical retarder solvent, ideal for applications requiring slow evaporation, good flow, and leveling characteristics, as well as blush resistance. IBIB is widely used in automotive, industrial, wood furniture, and graphic arts coatings. Its low surface tension makes it valuable for applications requiring improved substrate wetting. Additionally, IBIB’s low water miscibility makes it an excellent retarder solvent for moisture-sensitive coatings such as 2-K polyurethanes. With its high electrical resistance, IBIB is useful in adjusting the resistivity of coatings applied using electrostatic spray equipment.
