DESCRIPTION

Sodium sulfate (also known as soda sulfate or sodium sulphate) is an inorganic compound with the formula Na₂SO₄ and several related hydrates. All forms are white solids that are highly soluble in water. It is primarily used as a filler in the manufacture of powdered home laundry detergents and in the Kraft process of paper pulping to produce highly alkaline sulfides. Sodium sulfate is a white crystalline solid with various industrial uses. It is found in many common electrolyte solutions used in clinical diagnostics. Since this agent is poorly absorbed in the body and can draw water out of cells, it is sometimes used as a cathartic or diuretic.
