DESCRIPTION

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a white inorganic compound used primarily as a dye in a wide variety of common products due to its non-toxic, non-reactive and luminous properties. It is known to be one of the whitest and brightest pigments, with the ability to scatter and absorb UV rays. It is used in paints, coatings, plastics, paper, pharmaceuticals, sunscreens, cosmetics, toothpastes and food (as colourant E171). Its ability to reflect light and resist UV rays makes it valuable in many products, improving their quality and longevity. In addition to its common uses, TiO2 has important environmental and technological applications. In paint coatings, its reflective properties can reduce energy consumption in buildings by reducing the need for air conditioning. As a photocatalyst, it is used to break down environmental pollutants in paints, cements and other materials. It is also crucial in exhaust gas systems to reduce pollution and in the production of clean energy through solar cells such as Grätzel cells, which use nano titanium dioxide to generate solar energy through a process similar to photosynthesis.
