CAS: 770-35-4

Glycol Ether PPH (Propylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether) is a clear and colorless liquid from the family of glycol ethers. As a result, it has good solubility and low boiling point. This is highly soluble in different organic solvents, making it unique among its category and thus indulging itself into efficiency in industrial application. It has been used as a primary solvent and component in formulations, but is functionally different from other glycols by virtue of its low toxicity and chemical stability. The most used Glycol Ether PPH which has unique property to dissolve oil and fats and thus find wide applications in cleaning product formulations.

Being created in the mid-20th century, it was quickly integrated as a critical production element in coatings and adhesives, and later in other industrial sectors where efficiency and stability are essential for dissolution objectives. Since then, it has been used in multiple industries as a less expensive alternative to more complicated solvents with similar properties.

Applications in the CASE Segment (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, Elastomers)

PPH is mainly used in the manufacture of coatings and adhesives. In coatings, it acts as a solvent for resins by improving flow and ensuring uniform application. In adhesives, it helps optimize adhesion without affecting the stability of the product. Its low boiling point and high solubility in organic solvents make it suitable for elastomer formulations, where a homogeneous mixture is required without compromising the final properties.

Applications in Other Industries

●       Agriculture: Implemented in the formulation of pesticides and herbicides, as a solvent to dissolve active ingredients and create a homogenous mixture.

●       Personal Care: Used in the manufacture of cosmetic products like gels and lotions, more importantly as a solvent and co-ingredient, enhances texture, feel and application of product.

●       HI&I (Household, Industry and Institutions): Used in industrial cleaning products; helps emulsify fats and oils. It has a low evaporation point, making it ideal for dissolving non-polar solutions.

●       Lubricants and Greases: Acts to enhance certain additive solubility in cutting fluids and lubricants; maximizes product efficiency.

●       Construction:  Used in paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants, cleaning industries. It enhances the spreadability of paints, accelerates adhesion, and makes it easy to remove residues from building surfaces.
