CAS: 25154-52-3

Nonylphenol is a member of the alkylphenol family. It is primarily utilized as a source for non-ionic surfactant synthesis which enhance the features of industrial & agrochemical (as well as other agricultural) products. Nonyl phenol is used in agriculture as a surfactant to spread agrochemicals such as pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers more uniformly on plant surfaces thus improving their adhesion. That leads to better result from the chemicals, due to an increased coverage and persistence of action. Nonyl phenol surfactant action helps to combine liquids which are otherwise have a high surface tension (example of that oil and water).

Chemical Properties of Nonyl Phenol

Physical Characteristics

●      Appearance: Colorless to pale yellow liquid

●      Odor: Slightly phenolic

●      Solubility: Low water solubility

●      Hydrophobic characteristics: Nonyl phenol is hydrophobic, meaning it is repelled by water, making it useful in formulating surfactants and emulsifiers.

Applications in Agriculture

Nonyl phenol, in Agriculture plays a key and pivotal role in the manufacture of nonionic surfactants, agrochemicals spreading & sticking agents designed to facilitate a longer period of protective action for these chemicals once applied to crop residues. Therefore pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers become more effective.

Applications in Other Industries

●      Construction: Nonylphenol and its derivatives are used in the construction industry, especially in coatings and materials that require enhanced durability and chemical resistance, such as sealants and paints.

●      CASE : Nonylphenol is used in stabilizing products like coatings, adhesives, and sealants, improving their chemical stability.

●      Industrial Cleaning: Nonylphenol has been used in industrial cleaning products due to its surfactant properties.

●      Petroleum & Gas: Integral to oil recovery processes and oilfield chemical production.

●      Textile: used as a waterproofing for textile hence then enhancing the durability of them.
