Boric Acid | Applications in Agriculture & Other Industries

The versatility of boric acid has earned it many and varied uses in industry. It is an inorganic compound with unusual properties. It is a key pest-control agent, an antiseptic and a pH buffer, as well as a chemical for industrial reactions, in the position of an alkali and an acid. From ancient times, it has been used in medicine and for preservation. Today it is used to enhance crop health and nutrients in soils in agriculture. Key Properties of Boric Acid ● CAS: 10043-35-3 ● Molecular Formula: H₃BO₃ ● Molecular Weight: 61.83 g/mol ● Melting Point: 170 °C ● Solubility: 4.7 g/L in water ● pH: 5.0-7.0 (aqueous solution) Physical Characteristics Boric Acid Tech Granular – a white crystalline solid, granulated for easy application in agricultural settings. Boric Acid Tech Powder: is a fine white powder with exceptional ability to disperse and absorb within formulations. Both are biological pesticides as they have a very low toxicity for humans and animals, therefore they are perfect candidates for Integrated Pesticide Management programs. Applications in Agriculture As a mineral nutrition of plants, boric acid promotes the growth of crops. It assists in the formation of seeds and flowers, and it is very important to the development of crops. Meanwhile, boric acid is also a fungicide that helps to prevent the spread of plant diseases. This leads to an improvement in crop quality. Other Significant Industries ● Personal Care: Commonly found in cosmetics and skincare products for its antibacterial properties. ● Construction: Utilized as a fire retardant in building materials. ● CASE (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants and Elastomers): Often used as pH buffer and stabilizer. ● Pharmaceutical: Serves as an antiseptic in medical applications. ● Industrial Hygiene & Cleaning: Effective in cleaning products due to its antimicrobial properties. ● Plastics & Rubber: Acts as a processing aid and performance enhancer in polymer formulations. ● Petroleum & Gas: Used in drilling fluids and as a pH modifier.
