CAS: 123-79-5

Dioctyl Adipate (DOA) is a chemical used mainly as plasticizer (it makes plastics flexible and increases longevity). Manufactured by the reaction of adipic acid and 2-ethylhexanol, it differs from conventional plasticizers in its very stability under varied conditions. DOA is also oil and chemical resistant, which is excellent for when something needs to be durable and flexible. In time, it has become one of the main input materials for cables and packaging.

Other industries where it is applied

  • Personal Care: It is an emollient in personal care and cosmetic products softening the texture of formulations.

  • Lubricants and Greases: DOA acts as a viscosity modifier in certain lubricants, helping improve performance under low temperatures. Its use in low-temperature lubricants is significant, although not exclusive.

  • Automotive: Used as a plasticizer in the production of cable covers and interior components requiring flexibility at low temperatures.

  • Textiles: DOA can be found in coated textile production, such as vinyl fabrics, to enhance material flexibility in varying temperatures.

  • Toys: Approved in certain plastic formulations for toys due to its low toxicity and flexibility.
