Iso-Butanol (IBA)

Iso-Butanol, more simply known as IBA, is a secondary branched-chain alcohol. Having a simple but effective formula IBA separated itself with numerous industrial usage areas mainly in pharmaceutical production, solvents, and as chemical intermediate. As a primer, IBA is different from other alcohols in its class such as n-butanol which have a similar chemical structure but typically lower solubility and volatility. This has made it ideal for industries requiring an effective, low-impact solvent. Since its adoption in the mid-20th century, IBA has proven invaluable in industrial processes needing efficient, eco-friendly solutions.Research on sustainable applications for Iso-Butanol continues to highlight its potential in environmentally friendly processes. Application of Iso-Butanol (IBA) in pharmaceutical Iso-Butanol serves as a solvent for various pharmaceuticals manufacturing. Ethanol is extensively used as a solvent for a wide range of solvents due to its capacity to solvate complex structures, and it has low toxicity making it suitable for the preparation of safe and effective pharmaceutical products; additionally, ethanol is frequently used as an intermediate in expensive active compound synthesis, which facilitates high-grade drug development. Applications of Iso-Butanol (IBA) in Other Industries Iso-Butanol is also extensively used in other sections such as:Used in pesticides and agrochemicals formulations AgricultureCASE (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, Elastomers). For the production of resins and adhesives.HI&I (Home, Industrial & Institutional): In cleaning agents as a solvent.Lubricating Agents: For use in formulations of lubricants (e.g., greases).Construction: In producing sealant-related items.Plastics & rubber: Used as plasticizer and formulation agent.
