DESCRIPTION

Nitric acid is a clear, corrosive, and highly oxidizing liquid with a choking odor that has many industrial and laboratory uses. Nitric acid is used in the production of fertilizers, dyes, pharmaceuticals, explosives, fungicides, and more. It's also used in metal cleaning, etching, and plating, and in the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuels. Nitric acid is produced by the catalytic oxidation of ammonia. It can also be produced by combining nitrogen dioxide with water, which can happen during severe thunderstorms.
